After seven years, the amended Sex Discrimination Ordinance (SDO) has incorporated the clauses in protecting breastfeeding women from discrimination and harassment, which is enacted today (19/6). UNICEF HK welcomes the enactment of the Ordinance that will provide greater and more concrete protection for breastfeeding women. The amendment is a milestone that will help foster a breastfeeding-friendly environment in the city.
Breastfeeding gives children the best start in life. UNICEF HK is committed to promoting, protecting and supporting breastfeeding in Hong Kong. In collaboration with Food and Health Bureau and the Department of Health, UNICEF HK launched the ‘Say Yes to Breastfeeding’ campaign in 2015 with the aim of raising public awareness on the needs of breastfeeding mothers. Since its launch, the campaign has received active responses from various sectors. Over 1,365 workplaces and 471 premises have been acknowledged as “breastfeeding-welcome”.
